The Real Cost of Cheap Food

August 30, 2009

Time Magazine recently published an extensive article online and in their August 31, 2009 magazine issue entitled “The Real Cost of Cheap Food.” The article explains many of the effects of our food system in the United States and how it leads to massive loss of wildlife, climate change, obesity, poor nutrition, increased disease rates in our population, poisoning the environment with pesticides and fertilizers, factory farm production, chemicals in our food supply, dependency on foreign oil, increased carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases, bacterial outbreaks like salmonella and e. coli (which are all caused by our poor food system and are not normal), and much more.

The article also talks about companies, farmers, and people who are making a difference and producing, distributing, and marketing foods that are actually good for you, for our environment, and for every living thing on this planet.
