Natural Eczema and Autoimmune Disease Treatments

April 20, 2011

I’ve written a lot recently about autoimmune diseases like eczema and allergies because there are so many people struggling with autoimmune diseases today. Here’s hope for anyone who has eczema, allergies, psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, or any other autoimmune diseases…

I just came across the coolest success story of someone who overcame some severe autoimmune disease symptoms. I learned about it from Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s awesome Prevent Disease website.

I hope this story will provide hope for those of you who may be struggling with any type of autoimmune disorder – there is hope! And there are definitely some simple things you can do that will make a huge difference for your health.

Jodi successfully manages her chronic skin rashes and joint pain by following Dr. Fuhrman’s eating plan!

from Jodi

“I started experiencing skin rashes and joint pain as a teenager more than 40 years ago. Back then, in the 60’s, I don’t think doctors knew much about autoimmune conditions (perhaps not even now). I was put on various drugs, including steroids and antihistamines, which swelled my body up like a beached whale. I was on medication for almost 20 years and saw different medical specialists including allergists, dermatologists, hematologists, rheumatologists, and endocrinologists.

In my mid–thirties, (totally unrelated to my chronic symptoms), I decided to improve my eating habits. I eliminated all junk food and artificial ingredients from my diet. Eventually, I became a vegetarian. To my surprise, I was able to eliminate all of the drugs I took. I remained symptom–free for over a decade.

Unfortunately, I slowly lapsed back into my old sad habits, living a frantic, restaurant hopping, stressed out life in Manhattan. By the time I turned 50 in 1999 (now living in NC), I was covered from head to toe with psoriasis and tested positive for other autoimmune diseases: rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Hashimoto’s and Sjogren’s.

In my quest for improved health, I read Dr. Fuhrman’s book, Fasting and Eating for Health. The book has a chapter devoted to autoimmune conditions. I have followed his eating plan since 2001 with much success. (See story in his September 2002 Healthy Times newsletter) I experience skin–flares up (see the photos for yourself!) only when I stray from Dr. Fuhrman’s eating program. I may never be cured, but I can manage my disease(s) provided I follow Dr. Fuhrman’s advice. I have also had success following the autoimmune protocol as described in the November 2004 Healthy Times newsletter.
The body has incredible healing powers if given the proper nutrients and care. I have also lost 20 pounds and breezed through menopause. I consider myself 58 years young.”

You can buy any of Dr. Fuhrman’s books by clicking the links below. Dr. Fuhrman’s wisdom, knowledge, and advice has made a difference for my health, my family’s health and for thousands of people all over the world. Enjoy!

Thank you for the info on proper or healing foods for diabetes. My hubby is diabetic, so I try to get reliable pertinent info. However, he feels like I’m a nagging wife, trying to get him to eat what I want him to eat.

Hey Valerie, glad you liked the nutrition info! “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear” – when your husband is ready to hear it, he’ll make the right changes. It’s always easier to hear it from a 3rd party than a family member. Maybe you could invite him to a local health talk or webinar?

    Dr. Corson-Knowles:

I am a SC on Pam Shepley’s team and I have a niece who is a DD and has been suffering with Lichen sclerosus of the vulva for three years. She has been on Juice Plus for 4 years(all three blends) and is currently taking 2 of each and occasionally 4. She had Lymes disease a year ago and was taking 4-6 of each daily. Her dermatologist in Jackson Hole, WY has her on the following: Protopic (tacrolimus ointment) 60g; special compounded ointment – VitA/Desonide/Amitriptyline 30,000 U/0.0 ;ASAP Ultimate Skin & Body Care Gel and, on bad days, a hydrocortisone cream 0.1 % and occasional nonsteroidal cream.

My question is how many of each capsule blend she should be taking? Would the Complete help her as well? I understand that this is an inflammatory autoimmune disease and would love to know what you would recommend?

I would so appreciate any help you can offer. I SO admire Dr. Candace Corson. She is a gem!

Thank you so much for your help.

    Best,

    Taffy Knowlton

      Hi Carolyn,

If I was her I’d be taking at least 4-6 capsules of the fruits, veggies and berries a day as well as the Complete smoothie mix once a day. I’d also make sure I was getting enough healthy Omega-3 fats from sources like whole organic flax seeds (you can blend them in the smoothie).

      Wishing you wellness,
      Tom
